Clinical Services
We are well equipped to provide assessments and outpatient services for most common presenting problems, as described on this page.
Comprehensive Psychological Assessments
We offer comprehensive psychological assessments for a wide range of difficulties including:
- ADHD
- Gifted
- Developmental Disorders
- Learning Disabilities
- Social and Emotional Difficulties
- Behavioral Difficulties
- Parenting
- Sleep Disorders (insomnia and nightmares)
- Depression, Anxiety, & Stress
- Decision-Making Capacity
- Dementia
The entire assessment process takes place over several in-person sessions typically spanning over the course of a few weeks. Each session generally takes 1-3 hours.
Adult Assessments
A typical adult assessment includes an intake interview, intellectual testing, achievement testing, a personality assessment, and a battery of measures to test for particular issues.
Children and Adolescents
Assessments for children and adolescents include interviews with the child as well as with parent(s) and/or guardian(s), behavioral observations, intellectual and achievement testing, and age-appropriate assessments of psychological functioning.
Results & Recommendations
Results and clinician recommendations are presented in an integrated report and reviewed with the client in a debriefing session. The integrated report is completed and ready to be reviewed 2-4 weeks after the last session. Please refer to our Fees page for assessment costs.
Psychotherapy
Our clinic is committed to offering empirically-supported treatments whenever possible. Empirically-supported treatments have been evaluated in multiple well-conducted studies and have been found to be beneficial for treating particular problems. While offering relevant evidence-based approaches, clinicians work collaboratively with clients to develop treatment plans that both have a good chance of being helpful and also respect each client’s values and characteristics. For information about what treatments are empirically-supported, please click here.
We are well equipped to provide outpatient services for most common presenting problems, including difficulty with school, depression, anxiety, sleep problems, stress, child behavior problems, and more. Our clinic also offers group psychotherapy for many of the commonly presented problems just mentioned along with specialized groups for parents and children. Please refer to our Fees page for psychotherapy costs.
Because this is a training clinic for MSU's Clinical Psychology doctoral students, potential clients must undergo a screening process to determine whether or not the clinic is able to meet their needs before accepting them as clinic clients. In cases where we are not able to provide services to an individual, we will provide a referral to other agencies. If you are interested in psychotherapy, please contact the clinic by phone at (662) 325-0270.
Behavioral Sleep Medicine
The Behavioral Sleep Medicine Clinic provides assessment and treatment of several common sleep disorders, including insomnia and nightmares. We also provide assistance with using CPAP, including finding the right equipment and acclimating to using a CPAP machine.
Services we do not provide:
Psychologists in the state of Mississippi are not authorized to prescribe medications. The MSU Psychology Clinic does not have a psychiatrist on-staff, so we are unable to offer on-site psychiatric evaluations to clients in crisis.
If you are unsure whether we can help with a particular problem, please contact us at (662) 325-0270, and we will be more than happy to answer your questions!
